  1. Why does your picture look so depressed
  2. Because it looks like a strawberry milkshake
  3. After the end of the Revolutionary War, Benjamin Franklin wrote a famous letter from Paris in 1784, to his daughter, criticizing the choice and suggesting the Wild Turkey as a better representative of American qualities. He described the Bald Eagle as "a Bird of bad moral character," who, "too lazy to fish for himself" survived by robbing the Osprey. He called the Bald Eagle "a rank Coward" easily driven from a perch by the much smaller kingbird. In the letter, Franklin wrote the Turkey is, "a much more respectable Bird," which he described as "a little vain & silly [but] a Bird of Courage."
  4. because it symbolizes how our country is free and independent
  5. i like bald eagles
  6. The eagle represents freedom. Living as he does on the tops of lofty mountains, amid the solitary grandeur of Nature, he has unlimited freedom, whether with strong pinions he sweeps into the valleys below, or upward into the boundless spaces beyond.
  7. Its because of its long life, strength and majestic looks. They also used to think it was only living in the USA
  8. What? How is it? Because "the man" said so. What kind of question is that? It doesn't make any sense.
  9. Because it's better than a Turkey...believe it or not that was suggested as a National symbol...My kids think it's hilarous.
  10. How? The founding fathers wanted it to? It's supposed symbolize strength, freedom, and beauty, something America clearly no longer stands for.
  11. Because the bald eagle is awesome. It used to be more commonly found around the country but because the numbers of bald eagles have fallen it is now on the endangered species list and less easily seen. If you're looking for a reason why the bald eagle was chosen over so many other birds, here's a quote with some insight: It is said the eagle was used as a national emblem because, at one of the first battles of the Revolution (which occurred early in the morning) the noise of the struggle awoke the sleeping eagles on the heights and they flew from their nests and circled about over the heads of the fighting men, all the while giving vent to their raucous cries. "They are shrieking for Freedom," said the patriots. Thus the eagle, full of the boundless spirit of freedom, living above the valleys, strong and powerful in his might, has become the national emblem of a country that offers freedom in word and thought and an opportunity for a full and free expansion into the boundless space of the future. --Maude M. Grant
