Bald

What causes a baby's bald spot on the back of their heads?

When babies are newborns many tend to have a bald spot on the very back of their head. What is the cause of this. I have a lot riding on this via a bet with the wife. The loser of the bet has to perform the running man (naked) for 2 full minutes.

  1. It's perfectly normal. It's called cradle cap and is caused by the baby spending so much time on its back, it regrows when the baby is older and turns more.
  2. Rubbing their head on the bed when they sleep.
  3. lol Babies get balld spots because they rub the back of their heads alot against the bed or car seat, ets. my daughter had a really big one when she was a baby....
  4. The baby has a bald spot in their head because it is the spot that they lay on the most.
  5. I'm pretty sure its from laying them down on their backs and their head being flat on the ground, this is also the reason for flat heads and ob longed head shapes.
  6. Its definitely where they rub there heads!!
  7. I agree w/flower girl they lay down on their back and move their head from side to side when not sleeping. This wears away the hair. I'd really like to get a good chuckle from the 'running man' clip that one of you has to do!?!?! LOL
  8. The bald spot developes because the baby spends much of their time lying on their backs (therefore the back of their head is constantly touching the bedding). Also, their original birth hair starts to fall out as it is replaced with permanent hair. This is why the bald spot developes at the back of the head, but will soon disappear as the permanent hair grows in. P.S. That's a good bet -- no one loses :-)

  10. that is b.c when they lay too much on one spot and they loose the hair..try switching the baby from back to the sides to the tummy...good luck..and you will have to let us know who does the running man...
  11. it is from the baby laying on its back and rubbing its hair off by moving their head from side to side, it stops being rubbed off and starts to grow back when they spend more time sitting up by themselves. Good luck and have fun with that bet!
  12. Cradle cap is very normal for babies. It is from them laying on their backs for extended amount of time.. Nothing to worry about it all grows back in time Congrats on the lil one
  13. the baby lying down in the cradle. caled cradle cap i think
  14. Baby's lay on their backs almost 100% of the time and the move their heads back and forth. The friction rubs the hair off.
  15. it's because of lying on their back all the time
  16. it is from layin in the same place all the time
  17. Well I hope your wife wins lololol, babies get these bald spots due to laying on their backs to often, if you do have a baby, lay him/her down on their tummy for 10-15 minutes a day.
  18. Baldness at the back of the baby's head is caused by sleeping in supine position without repositioning the head from side to side.
  19. To much time on his back can make his hair fall out on that one spot . But you dont want to put him on his stomach to sleep though.
